Hong Kong’s Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) has sought China’s approval to operate freight services to and from Guangzhou, capital of the southern Guangdong province, to capture a slice of the growing cargo traffic.
A source close to the company said senior KCRC officials visited Beijing recently with plans to operate the service late at night after passenger services have stopped. The sharp increase in cargo volumes at delta ports is expected to be a boon for the KCRC “Ports in the region, including Yantian, Shekou, Nansha and Hong Kong’s Kwai Chung, handled 92M TEU last year....
