The tyre “crisis” has thrown the spotlight on better tyre management and technology that can offer cost-effective alternatives to rubber compounds.
In a promising development for the port industry, Amerityre of Boulder City, Nevada has reached an agreement with a Chinese tyre producer to start retreading OTR tyres with a polyurethane-based compound. Amerityre already has a range of PU foam-based tyres for various small vehicles and has developed a PU elastomer, called Elastothane, for passenger tyres and OTR applications. PUbased tyre compounds have been tried before, but Amerityre claims to have solved the problems of heat build-up, high rolling resistance, flat spotting, and various health and safety issues....
