Developments are continuing apace in Vietnam, but a new report highlights the challenges as well as the opportunities.
In the past few years, Vietnamese container traffic has grown strongly, due to increased inflows of foreign direct investment and the country’s recently secured membership of the World Trade Organisation is likely to accelerate trade growth more. The economy is forecast to grow by 8% annually for the next 10 years and that could easily lead to a doubling of container traffic within the next five years. Last year the country’s ports handled 2.7M TEU and, although intra-Asia volumes remain dominant, exports to Europe and the USA have been growing at a faster rate than Asian volumes....
