Two years ago, the world’s leading containership builders tentatively unveiled their designs for new, bigger ultra large containerships (ULCSs) able to carry 12,000 TEU and above. The surge in containership size, which commenced in 2000 when 5,000 TEU ships were the largest afloat, has shown no signs of flagging and the shipyards wanted to be ready to meet the anticipated demand for these even larger ships....
