The International Maritime Organisation (IMO)’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) convened its 57th meeting in London early this month. Discussion focused on various means of making the ocean shipping industry more environmentally friendly and covered such issues as ballast water management and environmentally sound ship recycling.
Arguably, however, the most contentious environmental issue currently under MEPC consideration is ship emissions reduction. IMO is set to adopt regulations that will call for an 80% reduction in marine fuel sulphur content over the next 12 years....
