The unexpected defeat of Western Australia’s Labour Government in last month’s state elections has flagged the demise of container handling in Fremantle’s Inner Harbour and the rebirth of private port developer James Point Pty Ltd.
Under Labour, Fremantle Ports had already embarked on expansion of the Inner Harbour’s North Quay container terminals and preliminary work for capital dredging, in the expectation that existing facilities would be utilised until capacity was reached in 2015.
