Reefer container lessors face increasingly tough times, with many more competitors active today than two years ago. But despite the worsening credit shortage, further investment is planned for 2009.
The refrigerated container sector has not escaped the downturn currently affecting the wider container industry as it too is being impacted by the credit shortfall and deepening world recession. However, as refrigerated container trades have so far suffered to a slightly lesser degree than their dry freight counterparts, the outlook for reefer lessors is less bleak and already prompting some forward investment into 2009. It is apparent nevertheless that only those lessors with the strongest financial backing or deepest pockets will be able to compete effectively....
