External and internal competition and the effects of the economic downturn pose challenges for what has been among the country’s most dynamic industries.
According to Puertos del Estado, Spain’s national ports agency attached to the Ministry of Development, the country’s 26 seaports handled 13.327M TEU in 2008, just 1.05% more than in 2007, but given the economic meltdown that took place across most of the world in 4Q/08, that might be considered a positive result.
