Following the introduction of new US legislation in late 2008 requiring all US-bound import containers to be fitted with a high-strength mechanical seal, global transport security is set to be further tightened up and the way cleared for the future deployment of electronic seals.
The importance of container security may have been downgraded slightly in the US by the incoming Obama Administration, which has so far been rather more preoccupied with the desperate global economic outlook, but it remains a key challenge for Customs’ authorities around the world....
