The final go-ahead for the Ports of Stockholm’s long-awaited Nynäshamn container terminal project has yet to be confirmed, but it appears to be a foregone conclusion following Hutchison Port Holdings’ decision to take up a 25 year lease. The decision is expected in October, which should allow construction to start by August next year.
Hutchison signed the concession agreement “that grants [it] the right to operate the container terminal within Stockholm Free Port (Frihamnen) from 1 March 2009. The agreement paved the way for HPH to develop new containerhandling facilities at the satellite Port of Nynäshamn (Norvikudden), approximately 60 km south of Stockholm. This new terminal would serve Sweden’s most densely populated region and is centrally located in the Baltic to act as a transhipment hub....
