The demand/supply ratio for large off-road tyres is much more even today, mainly as a consequence of the global economic recession and the consequent fall in heavy mobile plant demand.
Demand for new tyres for heavy handling plant in ports and intermodal yards has fallen sharply this year, which is hardly a surprise given the fall in equipment demand as throughput plummeted. Say, for the sake of argument, that new straddle carrier demand is down by 35% this year - that’s 150 fewer machines than 2008, or 1200 16.00-25 tyres....
