Balqon switches to Li-ion

As briefly reported in last month’s WorldCargo News, electric vehicles manufacturer Balqon Corporation has changed its battery platform from a lead acid battery pack to a Lithium Ion (Li-ion) battery system.

The change affects Balqon’s Nautilus E20 and Nautilus E30 terminal tractors and the Mule M150, which is an on-road electric drayage truck under development. Both the E20 and E30 are being fitted with a 230 kWH battery pack and, in testing, the pack achieved a range of 204 miles to 100% discharge with no load, although 100% discharge is not practical in real operations. However, at 80% depth of discharge the effective range of the battery pack is claimed to be 150 miles, which is more than sufficient for a shift at a marine terminal....
