The economic recession has presented a stiff challenge to most shipping lines, but it also provided an opportunity for Containerships both to resume full control of the company and to expand into the Mediterranean.
Three years ago, the privately-owned company sold a 65% stake to the Icelandic shipping and logistics group Eimskip, which injected substantial equity into the company and merged it with its newlyacquired door-to-door operator Kursiu Linija. The operations of this Lithuanian company have slotted well into the Containerships’ network and allowed it to expand into the eastern Baltic states, to complement the existing Finland, Russia (St Petersburg), British and North Continent services....
