Kalmar Industries has made an agreement to acquire, for an undisclosed sum, Advanced Cargo Transhipment bv (ACT), an automation and software producer based in the Netherlands. The acquisition will further strengthen Kalmar’s considerable resources in automated port terminal R&D and know-how and, for the first time, give it access to classic, passive AGV expertise.
ACT was set up by Carel C van Helsidingen, who was formerly director of Frog Navigation Systems bv. Frog was extensively involved in ECT’s automation programmes going back to the preparation of the Delta Sealand Terminal in the early 1990s. As previously reported (see WorldCargo News May 2007, p1) the company was forced to file for bankruptcy earlier this year. Since then two new companies have been formed - Frog AGV Systems bv and ACT (the former is concentrating on industral automation projects)....
