Cargotec Corporation in Finland has announced that its container handling equipment arm Kalmar Industries has received an order from APM Terminals for 20 1 over 1 Shuttle Carriers with twin 20 spreaders to be delivered during 2007 to the state-of-the-art automated terminal being built in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Kalmar originally lost this order to “newcomer” Consens Transport Systeme GmbH in Germany, but Consens was unable to fulfil the order because of its financial difficulties. Although it was earlier understood that Consens’ work-in-progress was “safeguarded” while the “preliminary insolvency administrator” sought to sell the business as a going concern (WorldCargo News, November 2006, p2), this has not turned out to be the case and the company is now in liquidation.
A spokesperson for the Consens' adminstrator, Bruno Fraas & Kollegen in Wuerrzburg, told WorldCargo News that an asset sale is currently under negotiation with several interested parties and it is hoped to conclude an agreement before the end of 2006.
