P&O Ferries’ two new 49,000gt ferries being built at Aker Yards for the Dover-Calais route will be fitted with cargo access equipment from MacGregor, part of Cargotec Corporation
As previously reported (WorldCargo News, September 2008, p46), the 210m long vessels will have over 2700 lane/metres of vehicle space and will have a capacity for 2000 passengers, 180 freight vehicles and up to 195 tourist vehicles.
Macgregor ro-ro equipment will comprise a bow door located on deck three, a side-hinged inner bow door, a top-hinged upper front door, a horizontal sliding stern door, located on deck three, a side-hinged lift cover, a trailer lift, two bottom-hinged passenger doors and a pair of top-hinged rampway doors.
The lifting platform of the trailer lift is arranged on the port side and operates between the main deck and a recess on deck two. It consists of a single section operated by a jigger winch and wire rope. The total weight of the ro-ro equipment is around 110t per ship set.
