Arkas and Yang Ming joint venture

Yang Ming Anatolia is a new joint venture of Turkey’s Arkas Holding and Taiwan’s Yang Ming Shipping, based in Izmir

Bernard Arkas, Arkas Board Member and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yang Ming Anatolia, said: “It is very significant that the cooperation between Yang Ming and Arkas is being transformed into a partnership that will define the strategy for the region.”

“Yang Ming manages a global container service and it will not be difficult to achieve success in the Mediterranean and Black Seas now that these two forces have been joined,” said Yang Ming’s Board Chairman Frank Lu.

Yang Ming’s European director C H Yeh added: “Yang Ming will benefit from Anatolia’s dynamic environment and will achieve a more influential status in the Black Sea Region in the future.”

As of January, 2009 Yang Ming ships freight directly to Ashdod from Izmir and Istanbul with its TIX2 service. Import and export shipments to and from the Far East continue with the same level of service via Port Said.

Vessels with a capacity of 1800 TEU are used on the service, which follows the following route: Izmir-Ashdod-Port Said-Istanbul-Haydarpa&351;a-Izmir route. With this service, freight is shipped from Izmir to Ashdod in three days and from Istanbul to Ashdod in five days.
