DSV withdraws DFDS bid

Danish logistic group DSV has withdrawn its bid for DFDS shares

In an announcement to the Copenhagen Stock Exchange DFDS stated: ”On 13 January 2009 Vesterhavet A/S and DSV A/S announced that a conditional agreement had been entered into between the parties on joint ownership of Vesterhavet A/S’ shareholding of 56% in DFDS A/S. Hereafter, on 13 January 2009, DFDS A/S issued an announcement concerning the agreement. The parties, Vesterhavet A/S and DSV A/S, have decided to cancel the conditional agreement.”

The announcement will not entail any changes in DFDS’ daily operations or strategy, according to DFDS.

The EU Department of Competition postponed its decision regarding the sale of 25% of DFDS by J Lauritzen-owned Vesterhavet A/S to De Samvirkende Vognmænd (DSV) for a period of 90 days, as there is some concern that the sale will create a monopoly between road traffic and seaborne “road” traffic, which might disadvantage independent forwarders.

“We are surprised that the EU wants to look further into the market as we have done a huge amount of informative work along with the application to the EU”, said Jens Bjørn Andersen, head of DSV.

  • DSV has taken over a part of Norfolkline Logistics' unaccompanied transport business. The deal concerns trailers shipped between Sweden or Norway and Germany, Switzerland and France. DSV has also taken over Norfolkline's offices in Helsingborg and Lübeck.
