The Intergovernmental Organisation for International Carriage by Rail (OTIF) and the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) invite interested companies for an information session on a major new business opportunity for information technology services providers to be held in Rome, on 25 February 2010
The two organisations are looking for an operator for a new, innovative international registration system for financial security instruments affecting railway rolling stock.
The international Registry is expected to be the subject of a competitive bidding process to be conducted during the first half of 2010.
Announcing the information session, the Secretary-General of UNIDROIT, José Angelo Estrella-Faria, said: “I expect this project will give the successful bidder a high profile opportunity to apply cutting-edge technology in the creation of an innovative international electronic registration system.”
The Secretary General of OTIF, Stefan Schimming, said: "This project will be particularly attractive to visionary, high calibre enterprises, and will give them the opportunity to develop and apply information-technology solutions in a unique, international setting.”
The information session will be conducted in English and will provide general and technical information about the project and the selection process. There will also be an opportunity for questions and answers.
Russia has joined COTIF and thus become the 44th member state of OTIF. Initially, the CIM Uniform Rules will apply only to the carriage of goods from the landing stage at the Baltiysk ferry terminal to Baltiysk railway station, and from the landing stage at the Ust-Luga ferry terminal to Luzhskaya railway station, subsequent to the Sassnitz-Baltiysk and Sassnitz-Ust-Luga ferry connections, which have also been made subject to the CIM regime. Both connections are operated by Russian shipping company, Baltic Shipping Ltd and the Sassnitz-Baltiysk ferry connection is also served by DFDS.
Montenegro has applied to join COTIF and OTIF. The accession will provisionally take effect on 1 July, 2010.
