The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has announced 28 that Koji Sekimizu of Japan has been elected as the secretary-general of IMO for a 4-year term that commences January 1, 2012.
IMO said Sekimizu won a vote that took place during the 106th session of the 40-member IMO Council. The decision of the council will be submitted for approval by the IMO assembly, a group that meets November 21-30, 2011. Sekimizu, age 58, is currently director of IMO‘s Maritime Safety Division.
NOL group has announced that Eng Aik Meng will resign as president of APL shipping business on 1 September. Kenneth Glenn, a former Sea-Land executive and currently preisdent of APL North Asia region, will succeed him.
Eng’s departure effective September1 follows the already announced resignation of NOL Group CEO Ron Widdows and trans-Pacific trade chief Bob Sappio and the appointment of Ng Yat Chung, as Widdows’ replacement.
Jens Aurel Scharner is the new managing director of ferry operator TT-Line, with effect from September 1, when Dr Arndt-Heinrich von Oertzen will retire from this position after more than 24 years. The company will then be run by Hanns Heinrich Conzen and Jens Aurel Scharner as joint MDs.
Gustavo Ferrer has taken over as terminal director of Marítima Valenciana, replacing Ignacio Huet, who has been transferred to Noatum Information Technology. Ferrer was previously managing director of Dragados’ container business in Brazil.
Manila-based international ports operator ICTSI group recently appointed Man Tse as its assistant project manager, Greater China Area, based in Hong. In addition, Emma Gong has been appointed finance manager at ICTSI's Yantai Rising Dragon International Container Terminals Ltd concession
Heike Clausen, MD of VOTG Tanktainer, part of VTG AG, has been appointed VP of ITCO International Tank Container Organisation.
CSA International, Inc has appointed Andy Brown as Regional Manager for its Houston, Texas office.
BDP International (BDP) has appointed David Poh as General Manager for Singapore.
