Iraq’s foreign minister has said that the dispute over Kuwait’s Mubarak al Kabir port project on Boubyan Island has been resolved
As discussed in the August edition of WorldCargo News, there has been tension between the two countries over the port. Iraqi officials demanded that the Kuwaitis halted construction while issues over maritime rights were investigated.
Iraq even threatened to call on the UN and prosecute Kuwait if the new port had detrimental effects on Iraqi maritime activities.
However, Iraq’s Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari told Associated Press on 6 September that a technical review by Iraqi investigators shows that the port "won't affect our navigation...and our fears have been removed."
