Brief round-up of new appointments in the ports industry
Cindy Nichol has been appointed CFO of the Port of Portland, Oregon. She replaces Vince Granato, who is now serving as the Port's COO. Ms Nichol comes to the Port from San Francisco International Airport (SFO), where she was finance director.
Metro Ports, part of Nautilus International Holding Corp, recently appointed Troy Gouger as general manager, West Gulf operations. He joined Metro Ports after more than a decade with Ceres Gulf, Inc. Before that he was with Fairway Terminal Corp, where he was part of the team involved with the privatisation of the Port of Altamira in Mexico.
The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) has elected Armando Duarte-Peláez as its next chairman of the Board. His one-year term will begin on the last day of AAPA's 101st Annual Convention in Mobile (Ala), which runs October 21-25, 2012. He will assume the AAPA chairmanship from Jerry Bridges, executive director of the Virginia Port Authority, who began his one-year term on the last day of AAPA's 100th Annual Convention in Seattle on September 15, 2011.
Duarte-Peláez has been a shareholder and member of the board of directors of the Santa Marta Port Corporation, Sociedad Portuaria de Santa Marta (SPSM), in Santa Marta, Colombia. He is a physicist and electrical engineer by training, and also has a long career in cattle breeding, coal production and transportation. His port business interests have also included a coal port, PROUERTO, the deep water port in Barranquilla, Colombia, and various ports along the Magdalena River.
Adolph N Ojard, executive director of the Duluth Seaway Port Authority in Minnesota, will serve as the next chairman of AAPA's United States delegation and serve the association on US advocacy and government relations issues. Gaétan Boivin, president & CEO of the Trois-Rivières Port Authority in Québec, will serve as the next chairman of AAPA's Canadian delegation.
- The first WPTS World Ports Award has been presented by HE Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri Ministry of Economy, UAE to Eddy Bruyninckx, CEO of the Port of Antwerp during a recent gala dinner to celebrate the 2nd World Ports and Trade Summit, held in association with ADPC (Abu Dhabi Ports Company).
