Latest round-up of new appointments in the shipping, ports and allied industry sectors.
The Virginia Port Authority Board of Commissioners recently named Rodney W Oliver as the interim executive director of Virginia Port Authority, taking over for Jerry Bridges who leaves on 31 October. Significantly in view of the privatisation debate and the competing offers for VPA, Oliver is the VPA's chief financial officer and deputy director, administration, responsible for all administrative aspects of the agency including finance, human resources, information technology, and contracts and real estate, with more than 13 years experience at the agency. He was a member of the engagement team on the long-term lease of the APM Terminal in Portsmouth.
The Port of Houston Authority has hired Phyllis Saathoff, formerly interim Port Director and CEO of Port Freeport, Texas as Managing Director of Corporate Projects, a new position within PHA.
Kansas City Southern has appointed Stephen M Schollaert, formerly a senior APL executive, as vice president sales and marketing. In this position, he leads the carload business unit.
Underscoring a fundamental change in overall strategy at Cargotec (see http://www.worldcargonews.com/htm/w20121002.673508.htm) Mikael Mäkinen has been replaced as President and CEO by Tapio Hakakari, a Vice Chairman. Hakakari took over as interim President and CEO on 8 October 2012. Cargotec has decided not to nominate a deputy to him, but has started a recruitment process for the new President and CEO. Mäkinen has been appointed as President, Marine business area (MacGregor) and is moving to Singapore to head up the listing of that segment. The current head of Marine business area, Executive Vice President Pekka Vauramo, has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer in Marine business area. As of 8 October 2012, Executive Board members will be interim President and CEO Tapio Hakakari, CFO Eeva Sipilä, business area Presidents Mikael Mäkinen (Marine), Olli Isotalo (Terminals) and Axel Leijonhufvud (Load Handling).
Austal has announced that Michael Little has joined it as Regional Service Manager, Asia, based in Singapore.
Damco, part of AP Moller-Maersk, has appointed Pernille Fabricius as Global Chief Financial Officer. She was previously CFO for TMF Group.
CEVA Logistics, affiliated to Apollo Global Management LLC, has announced the retirement of John Pattullo, Chief Executive Officer. Marvin O Schlanger, CEVA’s current Chairman of the Board, will be appointed CEO. Pattullo will continue to serve on CEVA’s Board of Directors.
Toll Global Forwarding has appointed Steve Buckerfield as its UK Managing Director.
