Bronka dredging backed by Moscow
The Russian government will finance the dredging of the access channel to the new outer harbour at Bronka (Lomonosov)
The Bronka Marine Multipurpose Complex (MMPK Bronka) near the city of Lomonosov in the Gulf of Finland, within the Big Port of Saint Petersburg, is backed by Phoenix Investments (Fenix OOO). Construction is scheduled to begin in 2013 and the overall private investment is put at RUB43.7B (€1.08B) by the time the facility opens. The volume of federal investment is put at RUB15.2B, essentially for the dredging (for last report see WorldCargo News, February 2012, pp27-28).
Russia's Prime Minister Dimitry Medvedev has now signed off the amendment to the relevant statute to include the state's obligation to dredge the access channel, so the Bronka project has now taken a key step forward. At the same time, the government has dropped the idea to build a new deep water port at Baltisyk in Russia's Kaliningrad enclave.
