Latest round-up of comings and goings known to WorldCargo News in the shipping, ports and related business sectors
Paul Birnbaum has joined Ports America Stevedoring as vice president, sales and marketing. Prior to joining Ports America, Birnbaum was at Yusen Logistics, and before that he held operating management positions at Maersk and Conrail.
Héctor Gonzalo Bautista Mejía has replaced Rubén Medina as director of Lázaro Cárdenas Integrated Port Administration (API). Previously, Bautista held political appointments within the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), such as the Minister of Urbanism and Environment for the State of Mexico. Medina held the post of API director for almost five years.
Lorenzo Sánchez Hevia has been replaced as director of Mexico's Tuxpan Integrated Port Administration by Jorge Ruiz Ascencio. Sánchez held the post for three years. His and Bautista replacement appear to be part of a shake-up of port directors instigated by Guillermo Ruiz de Teresa, the coordinator general of Mexico's Puertos y Marina Mercante.
Carlos García has been appointed president of Terminales Marítimas del Sureste at the port of Alicante, replacing Francisco José Oviedo. In addition, Gabriel Núñez has been elected to the Board, with Rodrigo Baeza, Felipe Ezquerra, Manuel Bejerano and María del Carmen Honrado all stepping down.
Robert Peche is the Texas, US Port San Antonio’s new Vice President of Economic Development. Ramon Flores is the Port’s new Vice President of Real Estate Development. Germán Rico is the new General Manager of the Port’s East Kelly Railport. Rico was frmerly Director of Business Development for the Port of Brownsville, Texas.
UK-based intermodal and bulk haul rail operator Freightliner Group has announced that Russell Mears will be appointed as Group Chief Executive from Monday 30 September 2013. He will succeed Peter Maybury, who will retire from the position of Chief Executive, but remain with the Company as Chairman. Russell is currently Chief Financial Officer for the Group and has worked with Freightliner since privatisation in 1996.
Effective September 1, 2013, Lluís Gay, who has been the head of Land Transport at DB Schenker Logistics in Spain since 2007, will assume the position of CEO of Schenker Logistics SAU. Jaume Ballester, the current CEO of Schenker Logistics SAU.
Geodis Wilson has appointed Rene Bach-Larsen as Cluster Managing Director of Singapore and South East Asia. Geodis has appointed Leif Voelcker as Managing Director of Geodis India, responsible for managing Geodis’ South Asian Cluster organisation.
The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has confirmed that its former Secretary General, Daniel Fernandez, has left the Association. Douglas Brittin will take over as Secretary General of TIACA with effect from August 15th 2013.
UKWA, the United Kingdom Warehousing Association - has announced two appointments within its management Board. Tony Mohan (Bibby Distribution) has taken on the role of the Association’s Vice Chairman. Peter Masters (Managing Director of Miniclipper Logistics) has been elected to the UKWA Board to represent those UKWA members who operate storage facilities of 200,000 ft2 or less.
Richard Brown CBE, Rail Sector Ambassador and former President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport has been appointed a non-executive member of the UK's Department for Transport Board by Transport Secretary, Patrick McLoughlin.
