Latest round-up of appointments and departures known to WorldCargo News, including a new CEO for Kuenhe & Nagel and a new COO for Global Ports Investments
Former US Congresswoman Betty Sutton was recently sworn-in as the new (and 10th) Administrator of the US Department of Transportation’s Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation.
Rickmers-Linie recently appointed Celso H B Pavão as owner’s representative in São Paulo, to support the Westbound Round-The-World service it launched in March this year. He will work with the existing sales liaison agent Wilson, Sons Agência Marítima Ltda.
The YCF Group of companies, which includes the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry (LISCR), EuroFlag Services, Luxembourg and EMA Manning Agency, has appointed Carsten Gierga, previously managing director of Hamburg-based ship management specialist Interorient Marine Services (Germany), as its managing director for Germany. Suwarie Topaz, general manager, has been promoted to vice-president, global marketing and business development with worldwide responsibilities.
Russia-based Global Ports Investments (GPI) recently appointed Anders Kjeldsen as Chief Operational Officer. Kjeldsen has held a number of senior posts with APM Terminals, which now owns 37.5% of GPI.
José Luis Castro has been replaced by Adrián Alanís Quiñones as director of Guaymas port company, API Guaymas, Mexico. Castro took over API Guaymas in September 2006, when the port was handling around 0.6 Mtpa. Last year throughput totalled 5 Mt and is being enlarged. Castro was also responsible for the creation of the intermodal corridor, which has seen Ferromex and Union Pacific triple the amount of rail freight generated by the port. Alanís Quiñones is an architect by profession and represented the state of Durango in two legislatures, as well as holding the post of secretary of communications and public works. For the next six years, a budget of $545M has been allocated towards the port's continuing modernisation, which will involve capacity increases for installations handling both minerals and liquid bulk.
William Fralin,Jr has resigned from the Virginia Port Authority Board of Commissioners. Commissioner Fralin was appointed for a five year term in July 2011 and served as Chairman from November 2012 to July 31 2012, when he was succeeded by Jeffrey D Wassmer. Fralin led Virginia through its evaluation of private sector offers to take over VIT's operations, which it ultimately rejected.
At the Port of Everett in Washington Commissioner Michael Hoffmann has resigned after the Board of Commissioners passed a resolution calling for the Snohomish County prosecutors office to investigate whether he still met the residency requirement to serve as a port commissioner. Hofmann had moved out of the requisite zone and stated that “I have no interest at this time in accommodating residency stipulations” and therefore resigned. Hoffman was five and half years into his six year term and had twice served as Commission President.
Hong Kong container terminal operator Modern Terminals Limited has appointed Vivian Tso as Chief Financial Officer. Ms Tso previously served as the Group General Manager of Finance for The Zuellig Group and Group CFO in Shinwa International Holdings Limited. In 2001, she was a founder and CFO of BtNAccess (HK) Ltd., now PCCW Global.
ICTSI has appointed Reynaldo Mark Cruz, Jr as manager, information technology systems and services, for Manila International Container Terminal.
Kansas City Southern has appointed Kelly R Smith as assistant vice president damage prevention and freight claims. Smith is responsible for leading the company’s loss prevention and freight claims efforts in the US and Mexico. He reports to vice president, administration Gene M. Goode. He joins KCS from Hulcher Services, Inc.
Dr Detlef Trefzger has been named as the new CEO of Kuehne + Nagel International AG. Mr Trefzger has been a member of the Kuehne + Nagel Management Board since March this year and responsible for Contract & Integrated Logistics. He will continue to hold responsibility for the business unit Contract & Integrated Logistics until further notice.Prior to joining Kuehne + Nagel, Detlef Trefzger was a member of the Executive Board of Schenker AG. As CEO, he succeeds Karl Gernandt, Chairman and interim CEO of Kuehne + Nagel International.Garandt assumed the post of interim CEO after Reinhard Lange retired in May this year.
Denis Ilin has been appointed as Executive President of AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC), Russia’s largest international scheduled cargo airline. Ilin worked for several years as Head of Aviation for Basic Element, the Russian financial and industrial Group, where his main responsibilities included aviation business development. He also held posts in Volga Dnepr Group, including Manager of Volga Dnepr UK (United Kingdom), General Director of AirBridgeCargo, Strategic Management Advisor to ABC’s General Director, and Senior Vice President, Strategic Marketing and Sales.
