Carrier passes million mark
Some 46 years after developing the first picture frame container refrigeration unit, Carrier Transicold handed over its one millionth unit during a ceremony at its Singapore manufacturing facility today.
The milestone machine, a PrimeLINE unit fitted with Carrier’s recently introduced XtendFRESH atmosphere control system, was presented to CMA CGM, the world’s third-largest container shipping company and a longstanding Carrier customer.
“The one millionth container unit is an accomplishment not only for our company and the thousands of employees around the world who have helped make it possible, but for the marine shipping industry,” said Carrier Transicold president David Appel. “It demonstrates the technological progress we are making to achieve greater efficiency while maintaining best-in-class performance, helping move shippers toward more environmentally sustainable refrigerants and bringing further innovations in system efficiency and cargo protection along the way.”
Alexis Michel, senior vice president, Container and Reefer Logistics for CMA CGM, commented: “In addition to our commitment to offering high-quality solutions at every stage of the transport cycle, CMA CGM is dedicated to protecting the environment and promoting sustainable business operations. We have significantly reduced our carbon footprint over the past 10 years, and we are always seeking out new technologies that will help us reach our sustainability goals while also meeting our high standards for performance and efficiency. The PrimeLINE unit wins on both of these fronts, which is why we have been building up our fleet with PrimeLINE units since they were launched in 2008.”
In addition to its high performance rating, the PrimeLINE design offers several environmentally sustainable features including the unit’s validation by UL Environment as having a 93% recyclability rate, joining Carrier’s NaturaLINE unit as the only container refrigeration units to achieve recyclability validation.
Carrier says the PrimeLINE unit also delivers greater cooling capacity for perishable loads than any other container refrigeration system using non-ozone depleting R134a refrigerant.
