Latest round-up of appointments known to WorldCargo News in the shipping, ports and related sectors
Acting on a voice vote, the US Senate recently confirmed Paul “Chip” Jaenichen as Administrator of the Maritime Administration (Marad). Jaenichen joined MARAD in July 2012 when President Obama appointed him Deputy Administrator of the agency. He has served as Acting Administrator since May 2013.
The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee also approved two key Transportation Department nominations: Victor M Mendez for Deputy Secretary, the number two post; and Peter M Rogoff, for Policy Under Secretary. Both appointments must still clear the full Senate. The two nominees are serving in acting capacities.
Stéphane Saint-André, a former Deputy of the Regional Government of Nord-Pas de Calais and a former Mayor of Béthune, has been appointed Chairman and Director General of VNF, France's National Waterways Authority.
The Board of Directors of the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) has elected Kristin Decas, CEO and Port Director of the Port of Hueneme (CA) as its incoming chairperson for its 2014-2015 activity year. Ms Decas will take office at the conclusion of the Association’s annual convention in Houston in November. She took over as the Port of Hueneme’s CEO in February 2012 and before that she served for five years as CEO and Port Director of the Port of New Bedford (Mass).
Stéphane Raison has been nominated as the new president of the Management Board of the Port of Dunkirk (GPMD), a post that has been vacant since Christine Cabau-Woehrel left to take over in Marseilles. He served as interim CEO of GPMD bwtween August 2011 and March 2012 and has just completed a stint running the GPM de La Réunion.
ICHCA International has appointed Jan Boermans, Regional HSE Director Europe and Russia for DP World, and Bill Brassington, Principal of ETS Consulting, as the new Chairmain and Deputy Chairman respectively, of its ISP Technical Panel.
Peel Ports has appointed Patrick Walters as Group Commercial Director.
Patrick Hughes has joined Ports America Stevedoring as Breakbulk Sales Director. Prior to joining Ports America, Hughes led the regional sales team at CMA CGM (America) Inc and also formerly worked for Sea-Land Services in sales, marketing, yield management and refrigerated services. He also owned and operated a 3PL company.
NACCO Materials Handling Group, Inc, the parent company of Hyster Company and Yale Materials Handling Corporation has appointed Mike McCormick as Vice President of Warehouse Solutions, and Bill Buckhout as Director of Leasing and Remarketing.
