The president of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, has appointed Jorge Barakat as the new general administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP). Alejandro Moreno has been appointed as his deputy. According to legislation passed in 2008, the general administrator of AMP is effectively a minister without portfolio. Barakat replaces previous incumbent Roberto Linares. Barakat previously served as the deputy general administrator of AMP in 2009-2011, while Moreno headed the Maritime Department of the Moreno & Arjona legal firm as well is being an assistant general manager of AMP.
Iquique Terminal Internacional (ITI) has appointed Manuel Cañas as its new managing director. He replaced Fernando Ugarte, who had held the position for the last 14 years. Industry veteran Cañas is a former managing director and Board member of Portuaria Andes SA of San Antonio, which belonged to Maersk and the Broom group.
Sandra Esteban Rodríguez has been appointed as the new commercial director of Barcelona Container Terminal, part of Grup TCB. Esteban has worked for TCB for the last six years. She was formerly with Ewals Cargo Care.
Shipping, logistics and marine services provider GAC has moved Claus Schensema to Houston, Texas, to take the helm of GAC North America Logistics. Prior to his latest appointment, he was Managing Director of GAC China for 12 years, based in Shanghai.
Fisher Offshore, part of James Fisher and Sons plc, has promoted Jack Davidson from the role of Operations Director to the post of Managing Director.
Air Charter Service has announced that Nick Harris has returned to the company’s Dubai office to take up the role of Cargo Director for the region.
UK-based Europa Worldwide has split out its Air and Sea business into a separate operating division headed up by Board Director Angus Hind. Rebecca Jenkinson will head up the seafreight team, based in Birmingham and Karl Saunders heads up the airfreight operation, based in Heathrow. Europa also has an air and sea business in Hong Kong, which is now wholly-owned.
