Latest round-up of appointments known to WorldCargo News in the shipping, ports and related sectors, plus a summary of awards for companies and individuals

Claudio Bozzo has been appointed Global COO for MSC. The post is based in Geneva. Up to now Bozzo has been President of MSC (USA), Inc in New York. He will be succeeded in that post by the latter company's Vice President, Fabio Santucci.

Richard Ternblom will become the new managing director of Fjord Line in 2015. He replaces Ingvald Fardal, who will in future take care of Board duties and act as advisor to the group.

St Lawrence Shipoperators (SLS) has announced that Jean-Philippe Brunet has been appointed Chairman of its Board of Directors. An SLS Board member since 2012, M. Brunet is Executive Vice President, Corporate and Legal Affairs with Ocean Group, and President of the Eastern Canada Tug Owners’ Association. He takes over from Daniel Bélisle, Senior Vice President with Oceanex, who has chaired the Board since 2012 and is retiring.

Rajaish Bajpaee is handing over CEO responsibility of Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) to his current deputy, Capt Norbert Aschmann, through planned succession at the end of December, after more than 27 years of service to the Schulte Group. Mr Bajpaee will take up the position of Chairman in a non-executive capacity, with effect from January 1st 2015.

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners recently named 17-year Harbor Department employee Matt Plezia as the new Director of Master Planning. Plezia has been serving as Acting Director of Master Planning since September, following the retirement earlier this year of Director Larry Cottrill.

Wolfgang Birlin has been appointed the new CEO of German Rhine inland port company Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln AG, succeeding Uwe Wedig, who is leaving the company at the end of this year to become Chairman of Imperial Shipping Holding GmbH Duisburg. Birlin joins HGK from Osthannoversche Eisenbahn AG in Celle, where he was Chairman of the Board.

Thomas J Delaney has been named President of Portwide Cargo Securing Co Inc, which supplies lashing services throughout the Port of NY/NJ. He most recently, served as Senior Director, Sales and Marketing for APM Terminals (North America,) Inc in New Jersey.

Tiger Cool Express has appointed C Thomas Shurstad to the new role of Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for Tiger Cool Express, LLC. 

NACCO Materials Handling Group has announced that Chuck Pascarelli, President of Sales and Marketing, Americas, has been promoted to President, Americas, effective January 1, 2015. In this new position, Pascarelli will oversee all sales, marketing, manufacturing, finance and pricing functions for the Hyster and Yale product lines, as well as their extensive distribution networks across the Americas. In addition, his responsibilities will encompass all NMHG products and lift truck services, financial services, fleet management, national accounts and dealer relations for the Americas. Pascarelli, who joined NMHG in 2013, is also on the Boards of Directors of GE Capital and of The United Way of Pitt County, NC. NMHG’s existing President of Sales, Americas, David Furman, will maintain his current title and direct reports while expanding his areas of responsibility to include the Marketing and the Leasing and Remarketing functions. Pat DeSutter, Director of Fleet Management, has been promoted to the position of Vice President of Fleet, Service and Aftermarket. Vice President of Finance. Ray Ulmer will maintain his current role while also assuming overall responsibility for Human Resources.

Rhenus UK’s group development director Michael Gregory has retired after 40 years of service. He will act as an export specialist consultant to Rhenus UK in 2015 on a part-time basis, to help ensure the smooth transition of his departure.

Honda of the UK Manufacturing Limited awarded DP World Southampton a "2014 Supplier Award" during its annual supplier convention at the Swindon car plant.

Two Port of Los Angeles projects have been named a “2014 Project of the Year” by the Southern California Chapter of the American Public Works Association. The projects include the Berth 100 Wharf South Extension and Backland Development initiative, and the Port’s LA Waterfront Downtown Harbor Landside and Rail Improvement project. In addition, trade industry publication Engineering News-Record (ENR) announced that the POLA has won an “Award of Merit” for its Downtown Harbor project. The project won in the Landscape/Urban Development category of ENR’s “Best Projects” award program.

NewRail, part of Newcastle University in the UK, won the rail freight award at the UIC Research & Innovation Awards presented at the General Assembly of the worldwide railway association in Paris earlier this month. The award went jointly to Conor O’Neill of |NewRail and Philip Mortimer of TruckTrain Developments Ltd for their work on TopHat, a top lift intermodal trailer concept, with support from Montracon.

Siwertell, part of Cargotec, recently won its fourth International Bulk Journal award for its Siwertell products. This year, as in 2013 and 2009, Siwertell received the award for the best ship loading/unloading system. The IBJ award for best grab of the year went to Verstgen. Ports of Amsterdam received the best specialist bulk port award (for coal), not the best dry bulk award as we previously reported; the latter award went to the Port of Ghent.

Damen Shipyards Group, together with its website partner Evident, has won the Benelux Sitecore Experience Award 2014 in the category "Business Transformation."

John Manners-Bell, CEO of UK-based Transport Intelligence (Ti), has won the ACA-Bruel mention spéciale prize with his book, Supply Chain Risk. The prize is organised by the Association of Purchasing and Supply Chain of HEC School of Management in Paris.
