Latest news about some key new appointents
Confounding earlier speculation about the successor to Jan Westerhoud, Leo Ruijs has been appointed CEO of Europe Container Terminals (ECT) in Rotterdam with immediate effect. Prior to this appointent he was CFO of ECT since 2004 and the CFO for HPH’s North Europe Division since 2008. He joined HPH in 2002. No press release has been issued about this; it is just a low key notice on ECT's Dutch website.
Perhaps the reason for this is that - and giving credence to our ealrier report - Ruijs is not, unlike Westerhoud, heading up Hutchison Ports North Europe Division (ECT Rotterdam, Venlo, Moerdijk, GCT Gdynia, DeCeTe Duisburg, Stockholm and TCT Belgium in Willebroek). Instead, Clemence Cheng, CEO of HPH Felixstowe, is now also "Managing Director, Europe Division," which embraces all the above facilities plus BEST Barcelona and TCT Taranto. Previously, Cheng was "CEO Felixstowe and Managing Director, Central Europe." Again, no announcments have been made.
The Supervisory Board of Commercial Port of Vladivostok (VMTP, part of FESCO Transportation Group) has elected Valery Mestulov to the position of CEO. Konstantin Sokolov, who previously headed both VMTP and FESCO Transportation Group, will focus on whole Group business only. Valery Mestulov has a background in management of stevedoring companies, container terminals, including companies in the Far East of Russia. He formerly headed Vostochnaya Stevedore Limited and Vladivostok Container Terminal.
Marmedsa Noatum Maritime has a new corporate managing director, Boniface Berthelot. He replaces Jaime Valcárcel, who has retired. In 2010, Boniface Berthelot was contracted by J P Morgan as an adviser as part of the Dragados SPL acquisition. He was later appointed as corporate development director of Noatum Ports & Maritime, a position he has held for the last four years.
The US-based Liberian Registry (Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry - LISCR) has appointed shipping executive Gerry Buchanan as Managing Director of its dedicated office in Hong Kong. As the recently retired president of Genco Shipping & Trading, Gerry Buchanan’s experience spans an extensive career in the management and operation of a wide array of ships. Before joining Genco Shipping & Trading as President in 2005, he was with Denholm Ship Management and Canada Steamship Lines.
