Latest round-up of appointments and departures known to WorldCargo News in the shipping, ports and related transport sectors
At the UIC's recent Annual General Assembly in Paris (its 87th) Oleg Valentinovich Belozerov, President of RZD Russian Railways, was elected as Chairman, and Ing Renato Mazzoncini, CEO of Italian Railways (FS Italiane), was elected as Vice Chairman. Belozerov's appointment reflects the fact that the past UIC Chairman Dr Vladimir Yakunin, stepped down last August as President of RZD to further his political ambitions and Belozerov was appointed by Russia's Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to succeed him. Michele Elia, UIC Vice Chairman and then Acting Chairman, recently resigned as the CEO of FS Italiane, so Mazzoncini, his successor at FS Italiane, was elected to replace him as UIC Vice Chairman.
Hamburg port operator HHLA is heading for a change of leadership. CEO Klaus-Dieter Peters will not extend his current contract to the end of 2016. Peters informed the Supervisory Board last week that he would not be seeking re-election. The search is on for a successor.
Clipper Group has appointed Peter Norborg as its new CEO, with effect from 1 April 2016. Frank G Jensen, who until now has held that position, will serve as chairman. Since 2012, Norborg as served as operations manager of Gearbulk. Jensen became CEO of the group in July when both former CEO, Kristian Morch and Gary Vogel, suddenly decided to leave the company. Jensen has been chairman of Clipper Group since 2010. He joined the group in 1992, he was managing director of Clipper Bulk in the period from 1999 to 2010 and CEO of Clipper Group from 2010 to 2013 and then again in last six months.
Tapani Voionmaa, Group General Counsel at Finnlines, has been elected as Chairman of the Board of the Finnish Shipowners’ Association for the period 2015-17. He has also been elected as Chairman of the Board of the Maritime Foundation for period the 2016–2018.
Hansa Heavy Lift has set up new offices in Brazil and the United Arab Emirates and appointed a new commercial agent in Colombia. The new office in Rio de Janeiro is headed by Marcello Marano, while the office in Dubai will be managed by Torben Ottermann. HHL has appointed 3 Oceans SAS as its agent in Colombia, based in Cartagena and headed by Luis E Cavelier.
Ralph Frankenstein has been appointed Managing Director of HHLA affiliate CTD Container-Transport-Dienst GmbH, taking over the position from Marcus Bönning, who is leaving the company at his own request as of 31 December 2015.
Cargobeamer AG, the Germany-based developer of intermodal solutions for non-cranable trailers, has a new team of "heavy hitters" in a bid to increase its influence and profile in German and European corridors of rail power. Former federal German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder has joined the Adivsory Board as Chairman. Former Deutsche Bahn CEO Hartmut Mehdorn has also joined the Board.
DP World London Gateway Port has appointed James Leeson to the role of Head of Port Commercial, following the announcement that Tabare Dominguez is to become Commercial Director at DP World Vancouver. Leeson was most recently Head of Commercial for Associated British Ports (ABP) Humber region, covering the ports of Immingham, Hull, Grimsby and Goole.
Gaussin Manugistique recently appointed Jean-Luc Dejean to the position of Chief Operating Officer, to assist CEO Christophe Gaussin in achieving critical missions. These include establishment of a permanent organisation to carry out trade deals being negotiated, and develop the battery business. Dejean has an industrial background (eg LeGris), but most recently has worked in capital markets.
Magna Tyres has appointed Stephan van Leeuwen as new regional Sales Manager UK, Ireland & Italy. Stephan will travel on a continuous basis to visit customers of Magna and MTP Tyres and to provide overall sales and marketing support to tyre dealers.
Hempel A/S has appointed Anders Boyer-Søgaard, currently CFO and member of Executive Management of GN Store Nord A/S, as its new CFO wef 1 January, 2016, when the current CFO, Kim Junge Andersen, joins Rockwool.
Joseph P Linck, Jr, founder and CEO of NAFTA Marine Highway Company, has joined Fugro, a global supplier of geotechnical, survey, subsea and geosciences services as a Senior Consultant to represent its business development efforts in South Texas and in particular the Rio Grande Valley and the Corpus Christi areas. Linck is a former port director of the Port of Brownsville, TX, and subsequently designed, built, and operated a dry bulk maritime terminal in the port.
BMT Group has announced an internal reorganisation which will see the existing BMT operating companies grouped into five market focused partnerships. The customers will continue to be served by our existing operating companies, led by their current managing directors and presidents.
Denis Welch, Chairman of One World Maritime for the past six years, will take the lead for the Ports, Infrastructure & Resources Partnership based in Singapore.
- Dr Paul Wilkinson, most recently with CH2M, will take the lead for the Environment Partnership which will be based in Brisbane.
- Jeremy Berwick will take the lead for the Defence Partnership and be based in BMT’s Bath, England office.
- Jan van Smirren will lead the Energy Partnership and will join BMT in its Houston office, having worked for the past 25 years for Fugro Inc and Fugro GEOS.
- David Bright, currently BMT’s Sector Director Defence will lead the Surveys, Ship Design & Vessel Performance Partnership.
Dan March has been appointed CEO of the independent forwarder network, WCA, with founder David Yokeum becoming Chairman, and Ram Menen joining a new global Supervisory Board.
The University of Southampton,UK has appointed Dr Grahaeme Henderson, Vice President, Shipping & Maritime at Shell, as Adjunct Professor with the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute (SMMI). Dr Henderson recently delivered the post's key lecture on the themse of shipping emissions. It was entitled "The Shipping Challenge: Carry More. Emit Less."
