Shock move by Mohammed Sharaf
Latest round-up of arrivals and departures known to WorldCargo News in the shipping, ports and allied industry sectors

DP World’s long-serving chief executive Mohammed Sharaf has retired, with immediate effect, the Dubai-based port operator stated last week. Mohammed Sharaf had been CEO for 11 years and worked for the company for 23 years, a statement to the Nasdaq Dubai bourse said. DP World’s chairman Sultan bin Sulayem will carry out the CEO’s duties on interim basis, it said, while a search for a new CEO is carried out.

The Georgia Ports Authority's Board of Directors has announced that its Executive Director, Curtis J Foltz, will step down at the end of the Fiscal Year, June 30. "Curtis Foltz has led the GPA to achieve great things over the past six years as Executive Director, and the six years prior as Chief Operating Officer," said Jim Walters, Chairman of the Board. "In addition to record cargo growth, GPA, under Curtis' leadership, modernized its terminals and developed operational practices that increased efficiency, improved safety and focused on environmental stewardship. The Board is grateful for the many contributions he made to the Authority during his distinguished career as Executive Director and as Chief Operating Officer."

Foltz has agreed to provide consulting services to the GPA for one year after his departure.

The Board also unanimously accepted the nominating committee's recommendation to appoint the current Chief Operating Officer, Griff Lynch, to succeed Foltz.  

Modern Terminals Limited in Hong Kong has appointed Keith Saunders as its new Managing Director Hong Kong. Prior to joining MTL, Saunders held a number of senior management positions in American President Lines focusing on US West Coast terminal, rail and cargo management operations. Frank Jensen has been appointed as Chief Commercial Officer of MTL.

Dominique Schmitlin, a Lieutenant-Colonel from the Gendarmerie and an ex-army officer has joined Groupe Eurotunnel as Head of Security, esponsible for the Security and First Line of Response (FLOR) departments for the Channel Tunnel in both the UK and France, including 300 security personnel operational 24/7, 365 days a year. The two states are jointly responsible for Border Security.

John D Kennedy has been reappointed to the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority by Harris County Commissioners Court. Kennedy is Chairman of the Port Commission’s Procurement and Small Business Development Task Force and serves on the Governance Committee and Community Relations Committee.

The government of the Spanish province of Andalucia has nominated Javier Barrero as the new president of Huelva Port Authority. He replaces Manuela de Paz, who stepped down after four years in charge to return to a post at the local university. De Paz is under investigation under investigation in relation to various charges concerning misuse of public funds and fraud Barrero has been a member of Congress since 1983, where he occupied the post of vice president, although declined to stand for elections in December. He is currently president of the socialist party (PSOE) of Huelva, where he holds various posts.

Associated British Ports (ABP) Humber has announced the appointment of Mark Collier to the role of Dock Master Hull & Goole. Grant Fotheringham replaces Collier as Senior Assistant Dock Master for Hull and Goole.

The Port of Milford Haven has appointed Natalie Britton as Director of Operations and Commercial at Pembroke and Milford Docks, a new post.

Néstor Lagraña has been appointed president of Puertos de Tierra del Fuego, the port authority that oversees management of ports in the extreme south of the cointry. According to the governor of the province, Rosa Bertone, the various harbours constituting the port authority form a strategic sector for the development of industry, fishing and tourism.

Dan Weingart has been re-elected as Chairman of the Board of the Port of San Antonio (TX). Victoria Garcia is the new Vice-Chairman, Glenn MacTaggart is the new Secretary and Edward J Moore is the new Treasurer.

Frank Lehner has "not renewed" his posts at TX Logistik and will leave the company at the end of March. Patrick Zille, Head of Operations and General Manager of TX Logistik Switzerland will take over. Lehner managed the branch office in Denmark and was Board member of the subsidiary in Sweden. Lehner's resignation is said to have had nothing to do with last year's problems in Sweden. 

Eeva Sipilä, Cargotec's Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will leave Cargotec to take up the position of CFO at Metso Corporation. Eeva Sipilä will continue in her current position and as a member of Cargotec's Executive Board latest until the end of July, 2016. The process for finding her successor has been started.

RFID technology provider Invengo, has appointed Jiann Jiann Hsieh as CEO of its International Division, based in Singapore. He was previously VP and GM, China of Allen Technology Corporation Hiab has appointed Sebastian Poccard as Senior Vice President, Sales and Markets. He joins Hiab from Husqvarna, where he was VP Sales and Marketing Consumer Brands for EMEA and APAC regions.

Jungheinrich UK Ltd has appointed Steve Shakespeare to the position of Director of Customer Service replacing Nick Allen, After-Sales Director.

Jim Brown has announced his retirement as Market Development Manager of AkzoNobel’s marine coating’s brand, International, effective from the end of January 2016. At the time of writing no successor has been announced.

Edward Milanovic is the new Sea Freight Manager, Germany at owner-run logistics company Röhlig, a post based in Hamburg.
