We regret to report the death of David John Bennett (Dave Bennett), 69. He was in the port equipment business for many years. A regular visitor to TOC Europe events, he ran Salvador Bennett Trading until retiring in 2015.
After 25 years as CEO of Antwerp Port Authority, Eddy Bruyninckx, who retires shortly, has been raised to the nobility by H M the King of Belgium with the rank of Baron. In Belgium the title of Baron or Baroness is reserved for those who have made a notable contribution in a particular sector. Such honours are traditionally awarded on 21st July, Belgium’s national day.
The Philadelphia Regional Port Authority Board of Directors has appointed Jeff Theobald as PRPA’s new CEO. Mr. Theobald, most recently the President and CEO for Ports America Outer Harbor Terminal, LLC, replaces James T McDermott, Jr, who retired from PRPA in April. Mr Theobald is expected to assume his new duties in August.
Michael Colbruno, a managing partner with the Milo Group of California, has been elected President of the Port of Oakland’s Board of Port Commissioners. The former two-term member and past Chair of the Oakland Planning Commission was chosen unanimously by the seven-member Board. He succeeds Commissioner Earl Hamlin who concludes his one-year tenure as President but remains on the Board. The Board also elected Ces Butner First Vice President and Joan Story Second Vice President.
Taco de Vries has recently been appointed Director, Business Development, Dry Bulk with HES International. He was previously Managing Direcotr for twelve years of HES's 100% daughter company EBS. Jan de Wit, previously Operations Manager at Maasvlakte-based dry bulk stevedores EMO (also 100% HES) has been appointed as De Vries's successor at EBS.
Renê Wlach has taken over from Thierry Rios, who has retired, as Commercial Director of Tecon Rio Grande, operated by Wilson, Sons in the Brazilian port of Rio Grande do Sûl. Renê Wlach was formerly with Hamburg Sűd, where he was for many years Regional Director, South.
Sirpa Poitsalo, Vice President, General Counsel, has been appointed a member of the Konecranes Group Executive Board and will report to Panu Routila, President & CEO. Sirpa Poitsalo has worked at Konecranes since 1988 and has been a member of the Group Senior Management.
Anna Romberg has been appointed Vice President, Ethics and Compliance, at Cargtoec, working in the Corporate Audit and Assurance team. She has joined Cargotec from Telia Company where she was responsible for the Ethics and Compliance work in Eurasia region as well as responsible for the anti-corruption work for the group.
Michael Höllermann and Johan P Cnossen are to join the Management Board of Thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions, with effect from 1st August. Michael Höllermann, CEO of Regional Headquarters South America since 2012, will be the new Chief Human Resources Officer. Johan P Cnossen, who joined Industrial Solutions on 1st May as head of the transformation office for the implementation of “planets”, will hold the new position of Chief Operating Officer.
Netherlands-based Merford has Rik Lewis as Account Manager, looking after the Midlands and the North of the UK. Merford launched its UK operation in April 2016 focused on noise prevention technologies.
CS Leasing, a container leasing company focused on special containers, has announced two new appointments: Makoto Nose has joined the senior management team and will establish a new Singapore office, while Linda Knight joins as marketing Director in the Sydney office, with a focus on the New Zealand market.
Union Tank Eckstein GmbH & Co KG (UTA) has a new Country Manager for the German domestic market, starting from August, Andreas Kupfer. He will report directly to UTA CEO Volker Huber.
Germany's BGL-Bundesverband Güterkraftverehr Logistik und Entsorgung eV (Association of Cargo Transport and Logistics is to have a new Managing Director as Prof Dr Karlheinz Schmidt has reached the age of retirement and will leave the organisation. The new managing director should be appointed on 9th September.
DSV Road Limited in the UK has appointed Vicky King as the new General Manager for customer service. She was previously site manager with John Lewis (Dartford).
International law firm Hill Dickinson has announced the return to its commodities team of partner Andrew Buchmann.
