Deputy CEO Niclas Mårtensson has been appointed CEO by Stena Line as of September 28th 2016. The current CEO, Carl-Johan Hagman, will resume his position as Chairman of the Stena Line Board and will also remain in the role as Head of Shipping at Stena AB. Niclas Mårtensson has more than 10 years’ experience of working in different senior positions within Stena Line including Route Manager in Germany and Poland, COO and most recently as Deputy CEO.
Spanish financial newspaper El Vigia has reported that Xavier Soucheiron has "reached a mutual agreement" with APM Terminals to step down from his post as Managing Director of Barcelona-based Grup Marítim TCB. This year TCB has become, in two stages, a wholly-owned affiliate of APMT. Xavier Soucheiron became MD of Grup TCB in 2009, while Spain was in the full throes of the 2008-09 gloobal economic crisis. It is not known why he is stepping down. A TCB concession acquired in 2013, Tecon Quetzal in Guatemala, has proved to be a poisoned chalice for APMT (more to follow in October WorldCargo News), but this cannot be assumed to be behind Xavier Soucheiron's departure.
Following the organisational review process undertaken a few months ago and the untimely death of Marco Simonetti, Contship Italia Group has announced the new governance of the Group. Franco Cupolo, is appointed Managing Director, Operations and Sales while Sebastiano Grasso takes on the role of Managing Director, Business Services.Giuseppe Fumelli, Group Controller and Daniele Testi, Marketing and Communication, are confirmed as members of the team reporting to the Group President, Cecilia Eckelmann-Battistello. Shareholders Thomas Eckelmann, Tom Eckelmann and Katja Both were also present at the meeting in Milan.
Laindlaw Francisco Villalón was recently appointed as new General Manager of the Port of Coquimbo, in Chile's Region IV.
The Supervisory Board of BLG Bremer Lagerhaus Gesellschaft AG has appointed Andrea Eck to the Board for the Automobile Division of BLG Logistics Group AG, with effect from 1st January 2017. She succeeds Michael Blach who, as previously reported, has been promoted to Joint Chairman of Eurogate Group (alongside Thomas Eckelmann) when Emanuel Schiffer retires at the end of this year.
IAPH: A call for nominations to seek candidates for the office of Vice President for the Asia, South/West, East and Middle East Region has been announced. The region has been redefined and it now includes Bangladesh, China, India, Iran, Japan, Korea, Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, UAE and Kuwait.
Jacksonville, Florida-based Seaonus has appointed Joseph Lala as the Operations Manager to its New Orleans location. He joins Seaonus Stevedoring-New Orleans with over 39 years of experience in breakbulk stevedoring and terminal related operations. Seaonus Stevedoring has further strengthened its New Orleans staff by announcing the employment of Bill Burns as the Director of Business Development and Customer Service effective immediately.
InterManager, the third party and in-house ship management association, has appointed Bjørn Jebsen as its President with immediate effect. Mr Jebsen, who was elected unopposed at InterManager's AGM in Singapore on 4th October, succeeds Gerardo Borromeo, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Philippine Transmarine Carriers, who has stepped down after four years at the helm.
Australia-based mini straddle carrier specialist Mobicon has appointed Jesse Schultz to the position of Business Development Manager - Australia. He has worked for Mobicon for over 10 years.
Reiner Heiken, formerly head of Kuehne + Nagel, Germany, has been appointed CEO of DB Schenker, Europe.
Dachser has promoted its Head of Contract Logistics, Alexander Tonn, to become the new Managing Director of European Logistics Germany. He reports to Michael Schilling, COO Road Logistics and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board, who will continue to be responsible for this position in addition to his duties until the end of the year.
Jeff Mason, transportation industry leader and long-time media professional, has been appointed chief of staff for Alexandria (VA), US-based 3PL trade association Transport Intermediaries Association (TIA). He will oversee and coordinate with staff on strategic growth plan initiatives and program management in support of the CEO and board of directors. He was previously EVP at American Trucking Associations (ATA) and publisher of Transport Topics.
Jens Haas has been appointed new National Air Freight Manager for the German business operations of the international logistics company Röhlig, working out of Röhlig’s Frankfurt-am-Main office. He is a former head of air freight with Schenker Deutschland.
