The International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) is seeking a Managing Director, Policy and Strategy – a new post within the organisation - working closely under the President and the Board of Directors. The post demands flexible working hours to suit the demands of International travel. A Salary in excess of US$100,000 plus performance bonus and all travel expenses will be discussed with candidates. Meanwhile, Masaharu Shinohara, Executive Officer, Kobe-Osaka International Port Corporation, Japan has been officially elected as IAPH Vice President for the Asia, South/West, East & Middle East Region.
Erik de Neef, chairman of the Rotterdam Boatmen’s Association (KRVE) has been awarded the Rotterdam Port Man of the Year 2016 prize. He was selected for having transformed the boatmen’s organisation from that of traditional maritime service providers into an innovative company. The showpiece in this respect is the patented ShoreTension system, basically a hydraulic cylinder designed to absorb peak forces on ships’ mooring ropes during storms. The number of units sold worldwide already tops 100. De Neef (36) joined the KRVE at the age of sixteen and has been the organisation’s treasurer for ten years. He is the 36th Rotterdam port person to be awarded the annual prize that was once instituted by the meanwhile dissolved Rotterdam port press club Kyoto. Erik de Neef succeeds Ronald Lugthart, CEO of RWG.
Renato Mazzoncini, CEO of Italian Railways Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS) has Oleg Belozerov as the new Chairman of UIC, initially for a 2-year term (2017-18). Isa Apaydin, President and Director General of Turkish State Railways (TCDD), was elected new UIC Vice Chairman. The hand-over took place at the 89th General Assembly of UIC in Saint Petersburg. Mr Belozerov is the President of Russian Railways (RZD) and Russian Railways has chaired UIC during two successive mandates from 2013 to 2016. He becomes the new Chairman of the UIC Asia-Pacific Region.
Pär Sundblad has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Scandinavian Shipping & Logistics AB, the affiliate of Sweden's Greencarrier Group and Germany's Menzell & Döhle. He joined the company in 2015 as a Business Development Manager.
In October, Capt. K Subramaniam was officially appointed by the Malaysian Ministry of Transport as General Manager, Port Klang Authority, Malaysia, taking over from Dato' Capt. David Padman. (IAPH).
Joachim Holst has been appointed as joint managing director of Duisburg Bulk Terminal GmbH (DBT), which he will manage together with Thomas Schymetzko. As a member of HTAG Häfen und Transport AG in Duisburg management board he is responsible for the operative bulk business of the HTAG group and, as such, is now a member of the extended management of the Neska group. DBT and Neska’s RBT Rhein Ruhr Bulk Terminal Duisburg division specialise in the handling and storage of raw materials for the steel and chemicals industries.
The Board of Directors of Hamilton Port Authority, Ontario, Canada, is pleased to announce that Ian Hamilton will assume the role of President and CEO, effective January 1, 2017. Ian has served as the Port’s Vice President of Business Development and Real Estate since 2008.

Paris, France: Douglas Owen has been appointed Secretary General of the Bureau International des Containers (BIC) following almost four years of service at the organisation as Deputy Secretary General. He most recently led the launch of the BoxTech Technical Characteristics Database (TCD). BoxTech TCD is a non-profit platform for sharing container technical details. Douglas Owen’s promotion follows the retirement of Bertrand Geoffray after nine years with BIC, although Mr Geoffray with BIC on special projects.
The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) has elected John Hatley PE, Vice President, Americas, and Director of Market Shaping, Wärtsilä Marine Solutions, as a Fellow of the institution. Candidates for election as a Fellow (FRINA) must have demonstrated exceptional contributions to the profession, a record of superior achievements in their career and having held positions of responsibility.
Beginning December 2016, Kristina Effler will assist marine customers navigating ballast water treatment alternatives as the new Global Business Manager for Alfa Laval PureBallast. This is a timely appointment, as the global shipping industry is preparing for the implementation of the IMO BWM Convention’s entry into force in September 2017.

Port San Antonio, Texas has announced a number of new appointments, following its latest annual elections. Victoria Garcia is the new Board Chairman and Edward J Moore is the new Vice Chairman. Glenn MacTaggart will serve a second term as Secretary while Ms Chris Alderete is the new Treasurer. The full Board is comprised of 11 members appointed by each City of San Antonio council member, including the Mayor. They serve on a voluntary basis and provide private- and public-sector expertise.
UK rail track authority Network Rail has appointed Andy Haynes had been appointed as its new contracts and procurement director. He has extensive experience working in Network Rail, most recently as project director on Network Rail’s Greater West Programme.
