Wolfgang Hurtienne has resigned as one of the joint Managing Directors of Hamburg Port Authority (HPA). Officially this is due to the ongoing restructuring of the HPA. However, he is also understood to have clashed with Port Senator Frank Horch over the rising cost of dredge spoil disposal in the port. For the time being at least, Jens Meier is sole MD of HPA.
David Fernández Larraguibel has resigned his post as Managing Director of Chile’s Puerto Panul, the Port of San Antonio’s dry bulk terminal operator, and taken up the post of Managing Director of rail company Ferrocarriles del Pacífico (FEPASA). His successor at Puerto Panul has yet to be appointed.
Hartmut Wolberg has been appointed as the new managing director of Unikai Lager- und Speditionsgesellschaft mbH, the 51:49 joint venture of HHLA and Grimaldi Naples in Hamburg. He replaces Michael Sieck, who retired on 31st December 2016, but who will continue as an advisor until 30th June 2017. Mr Wolberg has held senior posts with, among others, DHL Express in Frankfurt-am-Main and J Müller Terminal Brake. He joined Unikai in July 2016.
Mike Sellers has been appointed as the new Port Director of Portsmouth International Port, UK, joining from Associated British ports in the North East. He has also become Chairman of the Board of MMD Ltd, the port’s fruit import and handling affiliate.
London, UK: Reg Lee has been elected to the position of President of ITCO, the International Tank Container Organisation. He was previously President of ITCO from 2004 to 2010 and has been President of @TCO, the Asian Tank Container Organisation, since 2011. His term of office as ITCO President commenced on 1st January 2017 and will run until the end of 2018. A key aim of Mr Lee is to bring ITCO and @TCO closer together, “to ensure benefits for the global liquid supply chain.”
Calverton (MD), USA: The Intermodal Association of North America has installed new Board officers for the 2017 membership year, while also adding two new members. Adriene Bailey, chief strategy officer for Yusen Logistics (Americas), was elected to lead the Board, moving up from the office of vice chairman. Bailey has held leadership positions at Pacer International as well as managerial posts at CSX Transportation, consulting firms and the Southern Pacific Railroad, and is currently serving as the chair of the Denver Transportation Institute. She joined Yusen Logistics in 2011. Mike Wilson, senior vice president of Hamburg Sud North America was elected as vice chairman, and Dave Manning, president of TCW, was re-elected as treasurer. New to the Board in 2017 are Jason Hess, vice president and general manager, intermodal for Union Pacific Railroad, and Jon Poelma, senior vice president and chief operating officer at Consolidated Chassis Management. They have begun a three year term, effective from 1st January, 2017
