CMA CGM to co-operate with Hamburg Sud and Seago in NE/EM link

CMA CGM is expanding its operations in the northern Europe/eastern Mediterranean trade by agreeing a joint service arrangement with Seago Line, an operating arm of Maersk Line, and Hamburg Sud.

The new service will offer weekly calls at Felixstowe, Antwerp, Hamburg, Tanger-Med, Marsaxlokk, Alexandria, Beirut, Iskenderun, Mersin, Port Said East, Salerno, Algeciras and Felixstowe. Five ships in the 5,900 to 6,500 TEU range will be deployed in the operation which is being branded as the NC Levant service by CMA CGM.

A company statement issued by CMA CGM said the NC Levant service provided the carrier with “extended port coverage with a new export call in Tanger Med towards the Levant Sea and a new import call in Algeciras towards northern Europe”.

The vessels also call at several of CMA CGM’s main and sub-regional transhipment hubs, including Port Said East, Beirut and Tanger-Med thus offering importers/exporters in the region a range of connections to the French carrier’s global network.

The new link complements CMA CGM’s existing Aegean Express operation which focuses on the Aegean and Marmara Sea area of Turkey. In the eastern Mediterranean region, it offers direct calls in Piraeus, Ambarli (Istanbul), Gebze, Gemlik and Aliaga.
