Norfolk (Va), USA: The Port of Virginia is undergoing changes to its sales team that includes the retirement of its long-time vice president of ocean carrier sales and the promotion of a colleague into that position. After 24 years of service at the port, Frank Naughton, vice president of ocean carrier sales, announced earlier this month that he will be retiring on 1st July. He will be succeeded by Joe O’Brien and VPA is undertaking a a search for candidates to fill O’Brien’s former position of director of ocean carrier sales. O’Brien will remain in the port’s office in Hoboken, NJ.
The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has named a new Chief Harbor Engineer and a new Director of Program Management. Suzanne Plezia, the Port's Director of Construction Management, has been promoted to Senior Director of the Engineering Bureau’s Program Delivery Group and is thereby appointed to the post of Chief Harbor Engineer, the first woman to hold this post at the Port of Long Beach. Tom Baldwin, who has been Assistant Director of Program Management, will oversee the Port's capital improvement program, which includes dredging, wharf, terminal, building, railroad, bridge, safety, roadway and utility projects.
Overland Park, Kansas, US: Tiger Cool Express has promoted Tom Finkbiner to Chairman. He will continue to serve as CEO, a position he has occupied since the company was founed in 2013, until later this year, pending the recruitment of his successor. In addition, Larry Shugart will join Tiger Cool Express as President. His previous posts include positions at Worley Parsons and CSX.
Viktor Ivanov has been appointed Executive Director of Unicon 1520, a new railfreight operator set up by Russia's United Wagon Company.
Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has appointed Thomas Malmborg Senior Vice President, Services. He has been working for Kalmar and Cargotec since 1989 and for the the last nine years has been responsible for the Forklift Trucks business line in Kalmar Mobile Equipment division.
Wolstanton, UK: Hoppecke Industrial Batteries has appointed Michael McAthey as its new Finance Director. He joins from International Procurement & Logistics where he was Operations Accountant and senior line manager with responsibility for direct labour, overheads, packaging and raw materials.
Cleveland, Oh, USA: Denise Hughen has joined Container Port Group as Regional Business Development Manager in the Gulf Region. The anticipated opening date for CPG’s Houston terminal is set for 15th May, 2017. Hughen comes with over 20 years of experience in the international maritime industry.
Mott MacDonald has appointed Anthony Pearson as a transport director for north east Asia. Anthony will be responsible for implementing the consultancy’s regional strategy for the sector, driving its growth and overall performance.
