Latest round-up of appointments known to WorldCargo News in the shipping, ports and allied industry sectors
Tiina Tuurnalen was recently appointed Managing Director of the Finnish Shipowners' Association. She has held various positions at the Finnish Maritime Administration and at the Finnish Transport Agency, most recently as the latter's Deputy Director General.
Patrick Verhoeven has been appointed as the IAPH Managing Director, Policy and Strategy, with effect from 1st September, 2017. He has more than 20 years' experience in leading international port and shipping organisations as he has been Secretary General of Federation of European Private Port Operators (FEPORT); Secretary General of European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) and Secretary General of the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA).
Peel Ports, owner and developer of the £400M Liverpool2 deep-water container terminal, has appointed Jouke Schaap from APM Terminals to head up its entire container operations. Peel Ports states: "The position has been created to drive commercial opportunities focussed on the company’s network of terminals and port-centric logistics facilities." Most recently Head of Commercial for Maasvlakte 2 container terminal in Rotterdam, Jouke has overall responsibility for Peel Ports’ container businesses in Liverpool, Dublin and the Manchester Ship Canal.
Noatum Ports has appointed a new business development manager. Juan Ortí has 20 years' experience in the ports, maritime and logistics sector. For the last 11 years, he has been part of the operations directorate of Hanjin Shipping in the West Mediterrean, being head of operations for Spain, Portugal, North and West Africa, based at TTIA in Algeciras.
Porto do Recife in Brazil has a new president: the economist Carlos do Rego Vilar, who replaces Flávio Gouveia. According to Gouveia, despite the short time he had held the post, he departed with a sense of accomplishment and convinced that a start had been made on addressing the port’s structuring issues. Joining Vilar are Marcos Dubeux (head of operations and commercial department), Antônio Carlos Gonçalves da Rocha (finance director) and Michele Souza (projects and works director.)
Broward County, FL: David Anderton, Port Everglades' Assistant Director, was recently appointed to the Florida Freight Advisory Committee.The Advisory Committee works in cooperation with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to development freight connections that strengthen the state's position as a primary cargo hub in the United States.
The CEO of Mantsinen Group Ltd Oy will change on 1st July. Martti Toivanen will retire and will be replaced by Mia Mantsinen, who has previously served as CFO, then as Sales and Marketing Director and finally as Vice President of the company. “I have experienced a lot and learned even more," said Mia Mantsinen. "It is a great honour and a great responsibility to become CEO of our family company."
Following completion of its US$110M takeover from APM Terminals of Pentalver, first announced last December, US-based Genesee & Wyoming has confirmed that Pentalver will continue to be run by its current Managing Director, Chris Lawrenson, and will operate as part of G&W’s UK/Europe Region, led by Freightliner's Russell Mears.
Jesse Kallman has been appointed as the first President of Airbus Aerial US, a newly-created affiliate of Airbus dedicated to providing commercial drone - unmanned aerial systems (UAS) - services. The start-up is based in Atlanta, Ga.
Kögel owner Ulrich Humbaur has appointed Josef Warmeling as a further general manager at Kögel with a focus on international key account management, value added service, association work and OEMs. He will work with Thomas Heckel, Thomas Eschey, Massimo Dodoni and Petra Adrianowytsch.
