OneTerminal delivered "ahead of schedule"
Kalmar, part of Cargotec, and Navis, part of Kalmar Business Area within Cargotec, have announced the delivery of the first OneTerminal automation solution to International Container Terminal Services, Inc (ICTSI) in Melbourne
Kalmar OneTerminal is aimed at providing an integrated automation solution, delivered by one team, bringing together Kalmar and Navis software systems, equipment and services for a seamless deployment. The deployment was completed ahead of schedule, "making Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) the world's first fully automated international container handling facility."
The 35-ha VICT terminal has an annual capacity 1M TEU, and an additional 400,000 TEU on full build. The 660m linear berth can accommodate two large vessels with capacities of up to 8,000-12,500 TEU.
Christian Gonzalez, VICT Chairman and Senior Vice President of ICTSI's Asia Pacific Region is quoted: "VICT was designed, and is now equipped, to be fully automated, making it the most advanced container terminal in the world. We chose Kalmar's cutting-edge technology and equipment and Navis' software and it is enabling us to reach the highest standards of port safety.
"The project was completed on budget and ahead of schedule. This has never been achieved in the port industry for a fully automated terminal. It is especially noteworthy when considering the unprecedented complexity of the civil works requirements, along with the level of pioneering automation governing the design."
Kalmar's OneTerminal deployment at VICT includes Kalmar ASCs and11 Kalmar AutoShuttles, Kalmar Automated Truck Handling, Kalmar Terminal Logistics System (TLS) and the Navis N4 Terminal System. Additionally, Kalmar provided a range of project services required to deploy and support the solution.
- Kalmar is set to enter the intermodal rail handling market with a new, automation-ready RMG, for inland or portside railheads. The all-electric RMGs have a rail span of 20-55m, a SWL of up to 65 tonnes, a cantilever of up to 18m and a stacking height of up to 1 over 6. Timo Alho, Vice President, Intelligent Crane Solutions, says that the new RMGs can be automated step by step by adding features incrementally when it suits the customer. "We have utilised the same, field-proven technology that is already available in our fifth generation ASCs and the new RMGs can be operated manually, remotely or automatically."
- Kalmar has reported an order from Fiji Ports Terminal Ltd for three DRF400-450 reach stackers and one ECH mast truck.Slated for delivery in Q4 2017, the new equipment will join six Kalmar terminal tractors already servicing Fiji's largest container port, Port of Suva.
