Initial capacity exceeds 1600 loaded containers and the new facility will operate from 06.00 Monday-05.00 Saturday and extend to Saturday mornings in the New Year.
The five-acre depot, located at Clickett Hill Road in Felixstowe will see James Kemball expand its operations for retailers, brands, shipping lines and freight forwarders with the promise of outstanding customer service levels. It also provides the opportunity to add future services for customers.
Four new members of staff are already on board at the depot with plans to build this to a team of ten over the coming year.
The depot is equipped with two new Kalmar Gloria reach stackers, said to be the biggest capacity machines outside the port gates.
Commenting on the launch of the depot, Commercial Director of James Kemball, Darren Walne said: “This investment is very much part of our overall strategic plan to add value. Not only will it help us to grow our client base but will provide a fantastic new service for current clients and the ability for them to streamline their supply chain and reduce their quay storage costs."
Depot Manager Andy Tattersall adds: “We are immensely proud of our long-standing relationships with our customers and this depot will set new standards of excellence in how we operate, the equipment we use and how we utilise our strongest assets, our people, to provide exceptional customer service in an environmentally friendly and, importantly, safe environment.”
The new depot does not yet offer a SOLAS VGM service for laden export containers, but one could be provided through the reach stacker spreader, as required.
