Forth Ports training academy

Forth Ports is to invest in a new, purpose built, Training Academy located within the Port of Grangemouth, Scotland’s biggest port

This is considered by Forth Ports to be a key strategic investment in skills, qualifications and personal development for all employees across its Scottish operations including Dundee, Leith, Rosyth and Grangemouth. It already has an award-winning Logistics Academy located at its port in Tilbury on the River Thames.

The training academy in Scotland is being built to ensure that the right skills are in place to support the future growth of the business and sustainability of the ports, as well as providing opportunities and flexibility for employees to broaden their skills and enhance their careers and job satisfaction.

The 420 m2 academy will provide in-house facilities for equipment skills training and classrooms for safety and soft skills programmes, as well as expanding the existing training and education offering to customers and tenants.

Construction is due to start in early 2018 with completion expected to be at the end of the year. The tender process is underway to appoint a contractor.

Commenting on the announcement, Charles Hammond, Group CEO at Forth Ports said: "This significant investment demonstrates our commitment to developing our workforce for the present and for the future. People are key to our business and with this new Training Academy in Grangemouth not only will the individuals benefit, but so will our customers.

"This enhanced training facility will also support our ongoing corporate responsibility programmes including support for schools, colleges and local community projects. I look forward to seeing the Academy in 2018."
