Record year for HAROPA

The alliance of the Seine sea ports Le Havre and Rouen and Paris river port has reported a 6% increase in overall seaborne trade in 2017 and a 15% increase in container traffic

HAROPA recorded the "best figures among North European ports for the year 2017," notes the Le HAvre. ROuen and PAris alliance. For the first time in its history, HAROPA handled 3M TEU over the year on import and export, which it claims is "proof of its customers’ confidence.

"This result is the fruit of an overall development of the logistics sector of HAROPA which combines a first-class shipping offer, a high-performance cargo transit, fully developing connected logistics zones and diversified and multimodal inland transport services.

HAROPA has accommodated since April 2017 the three alliances 2M, Ocean Alliance and The Alliance on transatlantic and Asia-Europe trades. In addition, The Alliance has announced the arrival, in April 2018, of a new Asia-Europe service placing HAROPA as the first port of call on import, which means that fa urther traffic rise is expected.

The trimodal terminal in Le Havre handled 145,000 TEU in 2017.

Hinterland container traffic exceeded the 2M TEU for the first time, growing by 7%, while transhipment rose by 39% to reach a new record.

According to HAROPA's estimates, over the past seven years its container handling share on the North Continent range has increase by 1.1 points, from 5.86% in 2011 to around 7% in 2017.

  • A potentially "mínibridge" container rail shuttle connecting the ports of Marseille-Fos and HAROPA Le Havre via the French-speaking part of Switzerland will be launched in March.
