Controlling rotational sway

News-in-print

Germany-based CePLuS GmbH has come up with a new electronic sway control system, designated “CeSAR slew,” which appears to be effective in dampening down the rotational sway which is a natural pendulation effect of any slewing crane when the slewing motion is stopped and is very difficult to control.

So far the system has been installed on a Kranbau Eberswalde double level luffing quay crane working in Eberswalde Hafen and a Gottwald HMK 170 E harbour mobile crane in Antwerp. Gottwald appears to believe that Cesar Slew works and, interestingly, it is no longer working with US-based SmartCrane (see WorldCargo News, January 2002, p1).
