“RAM Octo” spreader goes into action
NewsThe Spliethoff Group is using a new pipe handling spreader from RAM to support logistics for an offshore pipelaying vessel.
Sweden-based Timars Svets & Side AB has launched a new range of fully-automatic overheight attachments. Tests were completed during the summer and series production is now underway, starting with the 20-40ft telescoping model, expected to be the most popular model. Fixed 20ft and 40ft versions are also available.
Timar’s sales manager Peter Steinbeck notes that there is growing demand for overheight attachments, reflecting in part an increase in shipments of outsized loads in open tops and flatracks, but also because of greater safety awareness and the need to reduce labour costs. The overheight frame provides a rigid attachment to the spreader and load so there is no load sway and it obviates the need for personnel to attach sling hooks, climb on containers and so on.
