Japan is home to two straddle carrier manufacturers, TCM Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). Yard gantry terminals, many built in the image of Singapore and Hong Kong, now dominate the Asian port industry but straddle carriers have hung on in places and are more popular than commonly thought, particularly in Japan.
