Recently it was claimed by one RTG/RMG component supplier that tyres can account for as much as 40 per cent (and in one case he knew of, 50 per cent!) of the cost of operating RTGs. Enquiries by WorldCargo News, however, suggest that costs of this magnitude are rare and for most RTG operators, tyre costs are the least of their worries – in contrast to mobile plant such as big lift trucks and straddle carriers where tyre costs are still a major headache.
