Hydraulic materials handlers provide a low cost of entry into ship handling, depending, of course, on the ships’ size and freeboard height, and can thus help a port tap into new revenue streams. At the end of May, for example, Peel Ports handled the first ever shipment of wheat from London Medway, when the 4,400 dwt coaster ARKLOW FALCON loaded grain at Sheerness, bound for North Africa.
