UK/Ireland-continent shortsea specialist MacAndrews, part of CMA CGM, has introduced a new service schedule, including a brand new call in Algeciras
Trials for the new service started in week 43. It includes a new call in Algeciras, a second Dunkirk call and a weekly Figueira Da Foz call.
The revised service provides a wider range of opportunities for customers looking to ship from the Iberian Peninsula to Northern Europe and beyond whilst offering excellent transit times while maintaining high schedule integrity, says the line.
"The decision to initiate a new port of call at the South of Spain via Algeciras on the Portuguese service was made to widen our geographic reach. This also underlines our plans to reinforce oour activity to and from the Iberian Peninsula."
The three Portuguese departure ports – Figueira Da Foz (Wednesdays), Setúbal (Thursdays) and Leixões (Fridays) on the UK East Coast service – connect the south of UK via Tilbury, France via Dunkirk, and the Netherlands and surrounding areas via Rotterdam. The West Coast service offers two Portuguese port departures, Setúbal (Fridays) and Leixões (Saturdays) to the north of the UK via Liverpool, Ireland via Dublin, to the south west coast of the UK via Bristol and from the UK/Ireland back to Portugal via Leixões. The new Algeciras port of call, which brings feeder traffic within scope, is scheduled for Wednesdays.
Currently, MacAndrews offers11 weekly connections from the European mainland to the UK, including two in the revamped Portuguese service utilising four vessels.The West Coast leg is serviced by two 630 TEU vessels, ELBSTRAND and VEGA PHILIP, and the East Coast leg is operated with two 430 TEU vessels, DS BLUE OCEAN and ICE CRYSTAL.
